Many companies are now looking for ways they can improve their hiring processes and other aspects of HR workers' jobs. One area of interest for these businesses is often in automation, which can provide a number of benefits.

Not the least of these is the fact that it can take over some of the more tedious tasks related to human resources work – such as reviewing and scanning documents – and free up HR professionals to focus on other, more important aspects of their work. That, in turn, may be able to significantly boost productivity, according to a recent study from the U.K.'s Department for Business, Energy and Industrial Strategy.

What's recommended?
As part of a seven best practices for the U.K. to improve its business operations, the organization suggested that, to build more efficiency into all aspects of their work, it may be wise to pursue "software for automating and digitizing various aspects of HR, thereby reducing costs," among other steps. These other options included steps like broader use of cloud computing and more software that helps digitize other aspects of work, such as customer relationship management software and enterprise resource planning platforms.

Moreover, the government organization asked for more input from business leaders as it pursues innovative solutions for boosting the nation's business efficiency overall.

Practical solutions
When companies are able to start using these tools to adjust their internal processes, they can see the benefits in a number of ways, certainly including the recruitment of new talent on an ongoing basis, according to HR Technologist. For instance, even if companies don't have HR automated specifically, they may be able to put new hires into existing CRM platforms as a sort of de facto option.

This will allow everyone involved in the hiring process to create and share information, notes and other information about potential candidates to streamline the evaluation process, the report said.

When companies can examine all their options for getting onboard with HR automation, they may be able to put together a solution that makes sense for all involved and work toward more efficient behind-the-scenes processes that ensure long-term success.
